A network for networks.

Connectivity, voice and infrastructure for providers and businesses. Start with one service. Engineers on the other end.

Faded nodes are not used in the selected delivery mode.

We terminate every session and route it to the internet over our network, transit and IX peering, on our IPs or on yours (BYOIP).

When a service misbehaves, you shouldn't have to wait for someone else to look. Test it yourself, then escalate with the evidence.

Test runs

  • On-demand nbn tests

Run the tests from the portal or the API and get nbn's actual results back.

  • Monitoring and graphs

The same monitoring and graphs our engineers see, for every service.

  • Alerts to you, pages to us

You get alerted. Emergency network faults page our engineers, 24/7.

  • Portal and API

Test and watch your services from the portal, or from your own code through the API.

Your IPs. Your network.

Managed Layer 3 internet can run on your portable address space. Addresses owned by a previous provider may not be portable. If your router originates routes over transit, authorise your own origin ASN.

  • Portable prefixes you hold or are authorised to use.
  • Keep your addressing through an agreed migration design.
  • Managed Layer 3 BYOIP originates from AS152590.
  • Provide an IPv4 /24 or IPv6 /48, authority and matching ROAs.

Why Underlay exists

I've spent more than a decade running networks in Australia, and I've been the small shop. I've had a provider refuse an order because we only needed two services. I've watched an upstream go after customers we'd won. And I've seen what it costs just to get started: the NNIs, the minimums, the contracts written for companies ten times your size.

The person who answers is the person who built it.

Nick Pratley, founder

  • ~500 Mbps to ~50 Gbps

Transit growth, leading a hosting and colocation network

  • 1 Tbps+

Internet exchange aggregate traffic, up from 200–300 Gbps

  • 10G to 400G

    Exchange switching, upgraded twice

  • RPKI

Route origin validation, designed and built

Questions providers ask

Can we buy for our own business or resell?

Both. All six services are available for your own operations or for resale. Business Terms apply to your own use and Wholesale Terms to resale; we identify the role for each order.

Who do we call for support?

If you buy for your own business, your authorised contacts come directly to us. If you resell, you provide frontline support and we normally refer your customers back to you; authorised contact and safety or legal exceptions may apply. We do not use wholesale customer details to market to them, including for Warp.

Is there a minimum?

No minimum service count and no Underlay setup fees. Start with one. Any capacity commitment, service-specific term or third-party installation, cross-connect or porting charge is identified before you order.

Can we use our own IP addresses?

Managed Layer 3 BYOIP can use portable IPv4 /24 or IPv6 /48 prefixes you hold or are authorised to use, with a letter of authority and ROAs for AS152590. If you originate your own routes over transit, authorise your own origin ASN. Previous-provider-owned addresses may not be portable.

Do we need our own ASN?

Only for IP transit. Our nbn services don't require one.

Can we test nbn services ourselves?

Yes. On-demand nbn tests in the portal and API, with nbn's own results.

Who answers when something breaks?

An engineer. Emergency network faults can be escalated 24/7. Individual service faults are handled 9–5 Sydney time, Monday to Friday, excluding NSW public holidays. Paging does not promise a restoration time.

Where can you deliver?

nbn across access technologies, subject to address, product and delivery-mode qualification. Current interconnection is at Equinix SY1–SY4, subject to facility and cross-connect availability. Colocation locations and available space are confirmed separately in your order.
