About Underlay
Network services for providers and businesses, built by someone who's run networks, and been the small shop.
The founder
I've spent more than a decade running networks in Australia.
At a hosting and colocation provider I led the network while transit grew from around 500 Mbps to about 50 Gbps. Then I ran the technical team behind internet exchanges in Australia and New Zealand while aggregate traffic grew from a couple of hundred gigabits to over a terabit. We took the exchange switching from 10G to 100G to 400G. I designed, built and rolled out RPKI route origin validation, rebuilt the member portal around automation, and carried the pager for members when things broke.
I've also been the small shop. I've had a provider refuse an order because we only needed two services. I've watched an upstream go after customers we'd won. And I've seen what it costs just to get started: the NNIs, the minimums, the contracts written for companies ten times your size.
It doesn't need to cost that much. It shouldn't.
Underlay is the wholesale network I wanted back then. Start with one customer, with commercial terms agreed before ordering. Use the monitoring, data and nbn tests in the portal and API. And when something breaks, you talk to an engineer.
The person who answers is the person who built it.

Your customers stay yours
For our wholesale partners: we protect the customer relationship and do not use wholesale connection data to solicit your customers.
Not marketed to
We do not use wholesale customer details to solicit your end customers, including for Warp. You provide frontline support; we normally refer them back to you. Contact may be authorised by you or required for safety or legal reasons.
Used for service and business operations
We receive connection details to quote, operate, support and bill services, prevent fraud, improve services and meet legal obligations, as described in our Privacy Policy. We do not use those details to market to your wholesale customers.
Your IPs, if you want them
Managed Layer 3 internet can use portable address space you hold or are authorised to use. Origin authorisations and any later migration are planned around the routing model.
